CM Mamata sings Rabindra sangeet, calls for year-round relevance of Tagore's poems

On the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore's 164th birth anniversary, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the "Kavi Pranam" program held on Cathedral Road. During the event, she addressed the gathering, expressing her deep respect and admiration for the iconic poet and his enduring legacy.

Mamata Banerjee began her address by acknowledging the armed forces, stating, "We are wishing and thanking the army that protects the motherland." She then emphasized the guiding light provided by Tagore's works, saying, "Kavi Guru's poetry shows the way, all memories and teachings are reflected in Kavi Guru's poems."

The Chief Minister urged everyone to keep Tagore's poems and philosophies alive throughout the year, rather than confining his relevance to a single day. "In honor of Kavi Guru, we should move forward considering his poems relevant throughout the year," she stated. She further highlighted Tagore's message of courage and resilience, adding, "Kavi Guru has taught us that we should never be afraid and never step back from our steps."

A notable moment during the Kavi Pranam program was when Mamata Banerjee herself rendered a Rabindra Sangeet, captivating the audience with her musical tribute. This performance added a personal and artistic dimension to the celebration, underscoring her deep connection to Tagore's works.

Expressing her concern about the perceived decline in the discussion and celebration of Tagore's works, particularly within West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee remarked, "Rabindra is being discussed less in our state, it happens in other states, it feels bad to see this." Her statement highlighted a desire to see Tagore's contributions receive greater and more consistent recognition in his home state.
